What NDIS support services can I access?

The NDIS will fund ‘reasonable and necessary’ support, services and equipment.

These should assist a person to:
 • Do things independently
 • Participate in the community
 • Access educational opportunities
 • Get a job and earn a wage
 • Achieve goals
 • Develop skills for daily living

Question 2

I’ve heard I have to meet with a planner. Is that right?

Accepted Answer

Yes, it is important that you meet with a planner or a Local Area Coordinator (LACS), who is a staff nominated by the NDIS, and work as a team to identify your goals and the types of support and services that you require to achieve your objectives.

Once your workbook is completed, you are required to meet with a NDIS planner. You will be contacted by one of the NDIS planners to schedule a meeting and discuss your current disability needs.

Question 3

Can I bring someone with me to planning meetings?

Accepted Answer

You can certainly bring anyone you wish to your planning meetings. You will be fully assisted by the planner to develop your care plan. Should you have any preference or wish while your plan is being crafted by the NDIS, you can discuss it with your planner either face-to-face, online, or over the phone.

It is important to note that based on your individualised plan, you might have to attend more than one meeting. Please bear in mind that choice and control are both dependent upon you; thus, should you wish Westpeak Support Coordinator to provide you with your support services, you can inform your preference to your NDIS planner.

Who will manage my plan?

Accepted Answer

As mentioned earlier, you have control on how to manage and implement your plan. Either you can manage it yourself with the assistance of a person you have nominated, or ask the NDIS agency to manage it on your behalf. You will be able to discuss management options with your planner during your planning meeting.

Question 5

Are there different package amounts?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the cost of packages varies depending on several factors, such as your individual needs and goals/aspirations – all of which are identified in your plan. You can receive more information from your planner.

Question 6

Will I get less support than I get now?

Accepted Answer

The answer is no. According to the rules of the NDIS, individuals who are presently receiving care support and who are eligible for a package will not receive less support upon their transition to the NDIS. In fact, to avoid any issues, it is essential that you bring as much support documentation as you possibly can to your planning meeting.

What happens if my needs change?

If your current needs or situation change, so can your NDIS plan. You can request to have your plan reviewed at any given time. The NDIS’s life-long commitment is to satisfy your current and future needs. Should you have any question regarding the timeframe for your plan’s review, you can ask them to your planner.

Question 8

Can I choose my service provider?

Accepted Answer

Yes. As an NDIS participant, you will have the opportunity to choose not only your service provider, but as well as the way in which your services are delivered to you. Suppose if Westpeak Support Coordinator is currently providing you care services, then you can ask to keep receiving them, or inform your planner about any changes or additional support that you require.
